How can driving resistances such as mountain driving or trailer loads be simulated realistically? In order to be able to perform driving tests under defined loads and at different speeds, UNSINN, the specialist for intelligent mobility solutions, is launching the UNBRAKE Braking Trailer. Including the software, it was completely developed by UNSINN. It will be presented to the general public for the first time at the Automotive Testing Expo Europe in Stuttgart from May 21 to 23, 2019 (Booth 8615 / Hall 8).

Load tests of motor vehicles and prototypes are indispensable for automotive manufacturers and system developers. Under real conditions, however, they are associated with a high expenditure of time and money. In addition, measurement data obtained on public test tracks are influenced by numerous environmental factors. UNSINN's UNBRAKE Braking Trailer not only ensures reliable test results, but also records effects on the cooling system, thermal load capacity of the engine interior and passenger compartment air conditioning. In addition, tests for the application of engine and transmission control can be realised and tests of all vehicle components can be carried out.

The UNSINN Braking Trailer is suitable for testing both passenger cars and light to heavy commercial vehicles weighing up to 40 tons. It is available with maximum tensile forces of 8 kN to 15 kN and a power range of 125 kW to 300 kW at operational speeds of up to 160 km/h. The efficient interaction of retarder and rear axle ensures the complete power spectrum for the entire speed range.

Permanent operational readiness thanks to water-cooled hydraulic retarder

To generate defined braking forces on motor vehicles, the Braking Trailer is equipped with a digitally controlled permanent braking system with water cooling. The water cooling ensures that the trailer is permanently ready for operation even at full braking power and very high ambient temperatures. The temperature-controlled and speed-dependent regulation of the system also counteracts overheating and consequently prevents system failure. The innovative braking system with ABS/EBS generates car-like braking decelerations and at the same time provides a safety gain. Furthermore, the UNBRAKE can be controlled with commercially available tablets, laptops and smartphones through created interfaces on the UNSINN on-board computer. A quick comparison of the engine speed of the test vehicle and trailer on the UNBRAKE terminal is thus also possible.

The entire brake trailer as well as the software for controlling the hydraulic retarder were developed in-house by UNSINN. This makes it easy to implement customer-specific adaptations of individual software modules. A laser-cut frame as well as robust commercial vehicle components from leading German manufacturers stand for the usual quality and stability of the trailer. The common tires and the specially matched tire size guarantee optimal road holding and adhesion. The safety coupling additionally contributes to a stable and safe driving behavior. Last but not least, UNSINN promises the best possible worldwide customer service. This is guaranteed by diagnostic options via the mobile data systems, worldwide location and recording of trip data, as well as customized solutions. Thanks to the extensive, well-equipped fleet of UNSINN rental trailers, all brake trailers, from 8 kN to 15 kN, are also available for rental.
