Do you want your trailer to be more than just a means of transport? In addition to transporting goods, trailers are ideal as mobile advertising space due to their size. There are various advertising options to increase the visibility of your company with a trailer. Read this article to find out how you can make the most of trailer advertising and which regulations need to be observed.

How can I put advertising on my trailer? 3 advertising options at a glance

An advertising trailer is a trailer that is used as advertising space. It can be used as both stationary and mobile advertising space. Whether on the side walls or on the tarpaulin, you have a wide range of options for your trailer advertising, such as foil printing, stencil films or digital printing.

1. foil wrapping trailers

Foil stickers are a quick and easy way to label trailers. Foil stickers are suitable for all trailer surfaces, regardless of whether you want to label a tarpaulin or box trailer with lettering or images.

2. inscribe trailer tarpaulins with digital printing

With digital printing, you can apply not only letters and logos, but also entire motifs as tarpaulin lettering to your trailer. The robust trailer tarpaulins are weatherproof and UV-resistant due to their material properties.

3. labelling trailers with foil stencils

Instead of foil labels, foil stencils with real colour can also be used for trailer advertising. These are particularly suitable for trailer tarpaulins and other plastic surfaces. The colours for trailer labelling remain colour-intensive and legible for a long time, even when exposed to UV radiation and moisture.

Is advertising on the trailer subject to approval?

Depending on the purpose, location and local legislation, advertising on a trailer may require a permit. It is therefore important to check with the competent authority in advance to avoid possible fines or penalties.

According to the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, trailers usually require a special use permit from the road construction authority if the trailer is parked in public space and serves the sole purpose of advertising. The decisive factor for deciding on a special use is therefore whether the parking of an advertising trailer predominantly serves traffic purposes or not. The use of mobile advertising spaces that are not fixed in place still falls under public use and does not require a permit. If advertising trailers are erected on private property, they are considered fixed advertising installations and require a building permit if they are visible from the public space.

Where and for how long may an advertising trailer be parked?

Basically, a distinction must be made as to whether the parking location is within or outside of built-up areas. If the trailer is used for public purposes, it may be parked in the same place for up to 14 days in accordance with § 12 of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). If the trailer is parked predominantly for advertising purposes, this is not parking within the meaning of the StVO and, as already mentioned, a special use permit for trailer advertising is therefore required. If this is granted, the trailer may remain at the parking location for longer than 14 days.

Outside built-up areas, all advertising is prohibited if it endangers or distracts road users. In particular, the parking of advertising trailers on bridges over motorways, federal and state roads is prohibited. Exceptions apply to advertising installations directly on company buildings as well as on airfields, sports facilities and the like.

Conclusion: Advertising on a trailer is an effective way to draw attention to your business. However, it is important to check with the competent authority beforehand whether and under what conditions the parking of a trailer with advertising is permitted.
